Basic Kitchenware For Easy Cooking
Want to cook like a gourmet chef in your own kitchen?
A decent selection of good quality pots and pans as well as some kitchen tools will have you cooking gourmet meals in no time!
Cookware
In order for your food to be cooked to perfection you really do need good pots and pans. Stock up with a good quality large and small frying pan, a one-quart saucepan, a two-quart saucepan, and a large pot for cooking things like soups and stews. Get covers for all the pans so that you can simmer properly.
When choosing your pots and pans it is important to know that a better quality set will actually make cooking easier. Cheap pans tend to wear out and will burn your food. Good quality pots and pans will spread the heat across the bottom evenly so that your food cooks evenly and doesn’t burn in one place but come out raw in another.
Good quality cookware will be expensive but well worth it. When buying pots and pans, make sure they are sturdy and the bottoms are flat. Avoid aluminum pans, the stainless steel that have a porcelain coating are usually a good quality pan.
If you choose pans that have a nonstick coating be careful when cooking with them. The fumes from these pans can be harmful and are fatal to pet birds so take care not to overheat them. Heat them only as much as is needed and use wooden or plastic utensils on them to avoid scratching the coating.
Some other cooking tools for your kitchen might include a crock pot, wok, toaster and microwave oven. You might also want to have a food processor and blender handy and also an electric mixer, and electric knife.
Gadgets
You also want to invest in a variety of wooden spoons that you can use for stirring. Get a large selection of handle lengths and sizes. Wooden spoons are inexpensive and the never get too hot to touch or scratch your non stick, cookware.
You also want a bunch of spatulas in many shapes and sizes. A heavy spatula might be necessary to flip your giant gourmet burger, but also want lighter ones for things like eggs. You’ll need narrow spatulas and wide ones so that you have one for every job.
Whisks are another great kitchen tool and they also come in a choice of sizes. They are very good for mixing lighter ingredients, and are better for cleanup than the hand mixer.
You also need a good set of knives. It simply does not pay to purchase cheap ones since they wear out quick and make it very difficult to cut. Cheap knives will be a struggle to use and will rip your food instead of easy and clean slicing that good knives will afford you. Also, you must have a good cutting board for a flat work surface that protects your counters. It is a nice to have two boards - use one for cutting veggies and the other for meats and you’ll never have to worry about bacteria from the meat contaminating vegetables you plan to eat raw. The plastic cutting boards are less porous and easier cleaned than the wooden ones.
You also need to stock your kitchen with a set of measuring tools. You need measuring cups and spoons for dry ingredients. Additionally, you will need a measuring cup to measure liquids. For liquids, a two cup measure is most convenient. If you want to be accurate in your measurements for dietary reasons, buy a food scale to measure your portions.
You should also buy a can opener to open cans which don’t have a top that pops open. You can get an electric one, but a good quality hand opener is actually much easier to use as well as keep clean.
With kitchen cookware and gadgets, you will discover that it you get what you pay for. Spending a bit extra will more than pay for itself with gadgets, pots and pans that are easier to use and last longer. Good quality kitchenware can actually make the chore of cooking easier!
