How To Make Gardening Gift Baskets

Gardening gift baskets can make a wonderful and personal gift for that special person in your life who loves to garden. You can fill it with gardening tools, seed packets, some nice gardening gloves or maybe even a gift certificate from their local garden shop. You can search online for a garden theme basket, but in order to get the basket filled with that perfect blend of items and lend a personal touch, why not try to make one yourself? It's not as hard as you think and the recipient will be sure to appreciate the extra time you took in putting it together.

How To Make A Gardening Gift Basket

First off you need a basket - or in this case maybe it would be more fun to use a nice planter as the basket? Next, just buy a bunch of items - not too many or the basket won't look good and not too little or the basket will seem empty. Some good items for a gardener include gloves, hand tools such as trowel and mini rake, fertilizer, little markable stakes (if they plant and label their flowers or vegetables). The amount you buy depends on the size of the basket, of course so you'll have to judge for yourself. Finally, buy some "filler" material such as raffia or maybe that mossy stuff that you stick in plants would be more appropriate.

Flower foam, tape and sticks are the key to making your gardening gift baskets look good. You can't just throw the items in the basket and expect it to be aesthetically pleasing. The best shape to use is sort of a triangle that sticks up in the middle and gradually ramps down on the sides. To achieve this, you can use a big piece of stiff flower foam cut to the shape of your basket (or planter in this case) with a rounded hump in the middle.

Arrange the items in your gardeners gift basket by taping some to sticks to give them some height - some you can just lay in the basket and others like the gardening tools might be tall enough on their own. Stick them into the foam so that they stay in place.Work from the middle out putting the tallest piece in the middle and gradually working your way down the side. Finally, fill in any bare spots with the mossy grass and wrap in plastic wrap.
