Benefits of Red Tea and Black Tea

Green tea benefits have been widely touted but what about red tea and black tea? Do they have benefits as well or do they just taste good? Don't give up the teas you love to switch to green tea for the health benefits as the red and black teas can have benefits - maybe even more benefits than the green.

Benefits of Red Tea

Although not as extensively researched as green, red tea is showing that it may be even healthier than it's green cousin. Named for the color of the leaves that come from this plant native to South Africa, this tea is proving to have very strong antioxidant capabilities. Another great benefit is that it is naturally caffeine free making it a good drink for people of all ages and sensibilities.

Some of the benefits of red tea include it's antispasmodic properties that can help with stomach ailments. It is also reputed to help manage allergies and asthma. It can even be applied to the skin to heal minor skin problems and contains alpha hydroxy acid which can help your skin stay healthy.

Benefits of Black Tea

Unlike green tea, black tea is fermented which leaches out some of the compounds that make green tea so healthy. But that doesn't mean that this tea doesn't have any benefits on it's own - quite the contrary. In fact, research shows that it can help improve coronary blood flow that may help in heart attach recovery.

In addition, it is possible that it may help in the fight against heart disease by lowering bad cholesterol and may have a role in cancer prevention as well. In lab tests, black tea was shown to help in the fight against many types of cancer and was even shown to be a stronger enemy of cancer cells than green tea.

While more research in both red tea and black tea is needed, it's a pretty sure bet that adding a couple of cups of either to your daily routine can't hurt and may even help!
