Removing Red Wine Stains
Red wine stains can be a bear to get out, but it is possible with diligent work and fast action. First off, you need to get to work on the stain immediately – don’t let it soak in! Blot up the liquid, don’t rub as you will only mash it into the item. Use carbonated soda water to draw out the stain and keep working at it, gently, until the stain is gone.
Red Wine Stains On Carpet
Serving red wine at a party is a recipe for disaster - it's almost certain that at least 1 quest will have an accident and there goes your carpet! If you see this happen act right away and you will have a better chance of removing the stain. But if you don't notice until the next day, there's still some things you can try.
While the stain is still wet, pour white wine or carbonated soda on it and blot, blot, blot. Don't rub or you will make it worse. Get some white towels and work at the stain until you have blotted up all the moisture.
Try mixing 2 oz of oxy clean in warm water (or if you have some of the oxyclean carpet cleaner use that) and spray on the stain, then blot at it until the moisture and, hopefully, the stain is gone.
Try sponging on some dish detergent and water.
For persistent red wine stains you can try dabbing it with hydrogen peroxide or a cream of tarter paste.
If all else fails try spraying the spot with Windex (the original blue kind). Believe it or not, Windex works pretty good as a rug cleaner for many stains (always test first on an inconspicuous part of the rug).

Again, your success in removing the stains depends on how quick you act. Immediately blot up the wine and sponge with carbonated water. Pour hot water through the stain (you can stretch if over a pan or bowl and pour the water through it). Rub some blue dawn dishwashing liquid on it and wash. DO NOT put it in the dryer until you see that all of the stain has been removed!
