Spaghetti Pie Recipe

One of my favorite uses of gourmet pasta is to make spaghetti pie! This delicious casserole type dish is a favorite in my family and tastes even better when it is reheated! The key is the spaghetti pie crust that holds the whole dish together.

Spaghetti Pie Ingredients
  • 6 oz spaghetti (regular or thin will do)
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese (buy the good stuff and grate it yourself)
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten (for less fat, use 1 egg and 1 egg white)
  • 1/2 pound meat (either ground beef or turkey)
  • 1 jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup sliced onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced peppers
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Saute the mushrooms, peppers and onions in a bit of olive oil and set aside (you can omit any or all of these as you wish). Cook the spaghetti as directed and drain.

To make the spaghetti pie "crust", mix the cooked spaghetti, eggs and parmesan. Press the mixture into a 9" pie plate on the bottom and sides to form a crust.

Brown the meat in a large skillet and, when done, mix in the onions, mushrooms, peppers and sauce - let simmer slightly for about 5 minutes.

Pour the sauce mixture into the pie plate and top with the mozzarella cheese. Put the spaghetti pie in the oven and bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees F.
