The Joy Of Zinfandel
With it's fruity aroma and light taste, it's clear to see why Zinfandel is a favorite wine of many. It's a luscious red wine (even the white zinfandel is made with red grapes) that is very versatile in taste. Well known for it's fruity flavor reminiscent of berries, it can also have flavors in the mint and spice arena.
Although the Zin grape originated in Italy, Zinfandel is known mostly to be grown in California. It is usually consumed when quite young, but some enjoy older wines that have a nice mellow flavor.
Zinfandel goes well with many types of foods from chicken to sausage. It can be paired with most meats and pastas and even tastes great with pizza!
White Zinfandel
This wine is made with red grapes, but has a light color as the skins of the grapes are removed shortly after they are crushed. Typically a sweet wine, it's flavors range from vanilla to strawberry and even to cherry. It is best when served at 40 degrees and goes well with pretty much everything from appetizers to seafood, pasta, Chinese food, BBQ, Greek, egg dishes, Mexican, Middle Eastern etc.. You pretty much can't go wrong if you serve white zinfandel!
Zinfandel
This is the red version, referred to simply as Zinfandel. This wine is very dark with almost a black tone. It can be sweet or dry and has flavors ranging from strawberries to raisins and can be spicy as well. This will age better than the white as it is a heavier wine in general. It should be served at 65 degrees and goes well with spicy dishes and wild game.
